NEIGHBORHOOD CANVASING FOR HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS - PIGEON TOWN
NOLA Ready is participating in the Community Day at Okra Abbey, taking place Saturday, September 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. NOLA Ready will begin with canvassing the Pigeon Town neighborhood At 8:00 AM.
St. George’s Episcopal Church and NOLA Wesley (the campus ministry at Tulane) are our other partners that day.
The flow of the morning usually includes:
- Pancake breakfast and coffee
- Garden Club for children (20–45 minutes depending on age range)
- Volunteer projects such as trash pickup, weeding, and gardening
- Cooling stations (two box fans with shade available) with partner churches providing waters and lemonade Some partnering groups have set a specific timeline within the 9–12 block (for example, a guided nature walk from 10–11, or a trash pickup that departed at 9:30).
- Partner organizations tabling stations (NOLA Ready will have a table) to engage with neighbors and volunteers, with a presentation on hurricane preparedness.
